Associate professor Margaret Darrow, inspects the vegitation growing on the front toe of several frozen debris lobes which have appeared along the Dietrich River valley in the southern Brooks Range which could threaten the highway and the nearby trans-Alaska pipeline. The force of the lobe rolls up the topsoil on the ground like a carpet as it moves down the hill ever closer to the road.
